Botswana Information

Despite Botswana being a dry country, one of it's major attractions is the Okavango delta wetlands area that offers great wildlife and nature. Botswana has a relatively small population of only about 1.5 million people, most of which live in the south-east. Larger cities are the capital Gaborone and Francistown.

Just outside Serowe, one of Botswana's largest villages, is the Khama Rhino Sanctuary which is a tribal project put in place in an attempt to rescue the last remaining Rhino in Botswana and breed Rhino with the ultimate objective of re entroducing them to the wild.

Most holiday-makers travel to Botswana for two reasons: the Kalahari gemsbok national park, which covers a sizeable portion of the country and the Okavango Delta, a huge wetland system of up to 15,000 square km. The Okavongo Delta is one of the most prolific wildlife areas in Africa, with diverse and pristine habitats, making it one of Africa's most important and impressive wilderness destinations. A notable experienced when visiting this area is the amazing variety of birdlife including fishing owls, cranes, egrets, herons and a host of eagles, vultures and other raptors.

The Savuti Channel area bordering the Delta to the west and Bedford Park to the east, is one of Africa's most famous big game areas. Only 38 kilometers northwest of Savuti and overlooked by many tourists lies Botswana's best kept secret: Linyanti and the western reaches of the Savuti Channel. The Linyanti and upper Savuti areas rank among the most beautiful areas in Botswana.

Chobe National Park is also a very popular destination for tourists and boasts many camps and lodges.
